I'm sorry for my long absence, everyone. The high of finishing my side project was crashed early this week by some terrible news, and it's been difficult to find any enthusiasm. But the friend whose critique and support I now miss so much would tell me to get back to work. Life does not give us time to sit and do nothing when we have a quest to fulfill. This is all too obvious to me today.
Condolences to your friend and his family.
That said, from a purely selfish perspective, WELCOME BACK! I just recently finished The Castle of Llyr and might never have read any of these books, and certainly wouldn't've appreciated them as much if not for you. Even Histories like Four Queens are more fun for having read your webcomic.
Hers, but thank you. I’m so glad these are meaningful to you, and that you’re continuing to read the series.
I was going to make a squealy "eeee" sound of excitement, until I read your post.
I am so very sorry.
Thank you. It’s ok. Please be as excited as you want! It’s an affirmation I need.
So terrible to lose a friend, good ones are so hard to find. I admire your conviction to push on, but I hope you are taking all the time you need.
The circumstances of this loss are such that there is no amount of time that will ever truly heal it, but I know what you mean and appreciate it. The significance of this project to my friend means that working on it is how I both mourn and honor her now. So it’s part of the process and I don’t regret it.
I just stumbled upon your graphic retelling while searching for ideas on how to cosplay Eilonwy....I flailed SO MUCH with happiness. You've captured Taran and his precious innocent determination so beautifully!!! I love all of this so much!
I am so sorry to hear that you have lost someone. *hugs* I pray that you will be comforted, and please do keep sharing this wonderful art with us. I will be following for more updates!
P.S. I am totally basing my Eilonwy cosplay off how you've portrayed her. <3
Oh my, please share when you’re done!!! I love me some Eilonwy cosplay. There are a few of us on deviantart that have done it. I’m getting too old for it now...my next trip to Wales, I’m bringing Achren.
I finally found something appropriate, which is SPAM (almost like a psalm but all mixed up) blocked, naturally, that fits your situation, so look to the webcomic (completed) Plume in Chapter 17, page 9, for an homage to inspiration from the dearly departed, left this life too soon for us but perhaps just in time for them. The worldly reward for a good life, even a miserable one like king Priam's, is to not have regrets tinged with self-loathing at one's own misdeeds.
Next month, I shall start to see what became of Achren after the wetting at Mona, so your next trip to Wales is especially intriguing.
I weighed momentarily not commenting, as I know that you've posted since this chapter and do not need to be reminded of a sad time in your life.
However, I am very happy that you returned from a traumatic time to continue this project. You bring so many people joy from doing it, even if they do not comment or create profiles to leave reviews.
By the way, having noticed your previous comment. You are never too old to cosplay Eilonwy! In fact it would be cool to see her as a mature adult maybe with a streak of silver in her hair. That's how she looked as the Queen of Prydain and I'm sure Taran still looked at her with that starry eyed look we know he had when he was a kid. Also (you get to go to Wales? I'm so jealous, as if I weren't already.) I'm too broke from college to afford traveling so I'll just live vicariously through you. Have fun! If you haven't returned already.
The trip hasn’t happened yet; it’s coming up in early summer. If you are on Facebook, look for my page there (just search for Prydain and graphic novel) and you can stay informed on it; I chronicled my last trip there on my page and it was a blast doing “location scouting”.
