Yes this would be me actually updating on a thursday again. I can't believe it either.

It would make sense that the man is vegan. Admittingly, it does look good. Vegetables dishes get such a bad rap.

And that is why we have an obesity problem.
I think he’s a vegetarian rather than vegan - he speaks nonchalantly of eating eggs, and I want to say the text mentions milk and honey. One wonders what exactly he feeds his wolves.

Archaeologists call that "the hunt for protein". Right now, in Venezuela, stealing from people's refrigerators and looting food are some of the only forms of crime currently increasing, with no cash worth much and so little else left to seal that isn't highly visible. Paleo-archaeologists can track when cattle or hogs arrived in Europe by the sudden halving of fishing villages and an inland explosion of human settlements.
Of course, nowadays protein and sugar are cheap in functioning market economies, and increasingly in the developing world too, so, a y'all say, obesity and such.
I love Gurgi's new look.

Honestly, Gurgi looks just as strange clean as I imagined. "Bathed" just isn't his look. :-)
Also, Taran's happy face brings joy to my heart.

He does look naked without his debris doesn’t he?
And happy Taran is such a novelty. I think this is only like the third time I’ve drawn him smiling.

Once my wife reads these books, I'll start calling her "Taran". There's always a relatively quiet, totally reliable worrier … I'm a bit more Flam/Eilonwy.

I seem to remember a good "that would be like" comment from Eilonwy in this scene. I always enjoyed that little tic/habit of hers. I know it's impossible to get every line of dialogue in...

You remember correctly - my line here truncates two into one. I did struggle over whether to make the change, but it just seemed so verbose.
I’ll mske sure her next simile survives intact!

I always enjoyed that habit of hers, too! In fact, a lot of the "verbal tics/habits" in the series are quite enjoyable and endearing. Immediately, I think of good old Doli. . . whom we haven't met, yet. Won't be spoilery on this one.

I'm not sure if I enjoy happy Taran and Gurgi more, or the smiles we can see, through the distance, on the faces of Fflewddur and Eilonwy at Taran getting joy-tackled.

In my head they’ve all had at least a basic washing and brushing, with whatever passes for human hygiene at Medwyn’s. Plus they’re well-fed for the first time in days. There’s no helping Fflewddur’s unshaven scruff, though.

This is fantastic work! I haven't read these books since I was a teenager, and seeing them so beautifully illustrated is bringing back nostalgia. Keep up the great work.

Aww. It is so nice to see the companions happy and at peace. Such little snatches of peace are what make the adventure worth while. Gurgi looks great, and even more greyhoundish when clean. He's just so darn adorable, and even though he's less "cute" than the Disney Gurgi, I think he's even more lovable looking!

Back to your usual acid self, Eilonwy? What has stung you this time? Just the day before you had so impressively lightened up. We knew it wouldn't be permanent, didn't we?

I don't think it's acid. She is sharp-tongued by nature, and not every snarky remark is born out of bitterness; sometimes it's just her manner of expression. Eilonwy is many things, but she's never deliberately cruel. If she does say anything especially cutting, it's because she's either hurt, or clueless about her own lack of tact.

Ah. And I just wanted to tie that in to my comment at p. 212. ?
To be honest, she is hurt most of the time one way or another, often because she would deliberately interpret what she hears in such a way that she may feel rejected again.
