(bonus if you heard that in the tune from Kenny Loggin's The Last Unicorn.)
Sorry, folks. I never intended to be gone for five months when I took my last break, and unfortunately I can't even promise I won't disappear again shortly; confluence of circumstances are making it difficult to get any hobby art done, but I'll do what I can, and thank you all for continuing to prod and let me know you're patiently waiting. I can't believe the length of the comment section on the last page!
This one was a fun intro back into this magic. And pro-tip: if you ever find yourself needing to draw otherworldly-looking fungi, don't waste time trying to make it up. Just google it, because you cannot out-weird nature in this department.
OMG How pretty! The colors are amazing, just glowing with light. I hope you add some of the story from "Sunrise" here, LOL. Hey they changed the comment section while we were gone, looks a little more sophisticated now... ;-)
So happy you did this!!!
I've considered dropping a couple easter eggs from my fic, if I can manage it without getting too far off course. We'll see!
Oh, you made me go and listen to "The Last Unicorn..." don't know that I've ever heard it before! Very sweet.
Beautifully imaginitive! So glad to see you back!
At last! ?
Gigantic bioluminescent fungi!!! Gorgeous! I love how the view angle and zig-zagging path in this one really create a sense of journey, too. What a wonderful way to dive back into this comic. Thank you!
Yeah, "bioluminescent fungi" definitely help with the problem of providing light underground....natural streetlamps! ?
I've planned this one for so long it was bound to be good, but it was more satisfying than I expected.
Yaaay! Just the pick me up I needed this morning. So beautiful. :)
Anyone else having trouble with the login on ComicFury? It still works fine on my PC, but from my iPad, the ComicFury page says I'm logged in, but when I try to post a comment it says I'm not logged in.
I sent the help desk a message.
It has something to do with your browser not accepting third party cookies. It’s doing the same thing for me (as you see, I can’t login from my phone) and I saw some chatter on the forum about it. Somebody had a workaround, but I didn’t really follow it.
Now you got the song from the Last Unicorn stuck in my head! Gorgeous page!
There are worse earworms. ;) Thank you for visiting again!
Same here. Now I am going to drive fam nuts since I will now take over the TV and pop in the disk.
Thanks...Yeah Safari started blocking all third party cookies by default a while back apparently. I fixed it by turning off "Prevent Cross-Site Tracking" under settings in IOS 14...
Ah!! Thanks for that tip! ?
Holy Chicago!!! Gorgeous!
And welcome back to the land of the living! :)
Thanks! Good to be back.
What a great return! You know, I used to think of you as "that artist that does faces so well," but this fantasy landscape is pretty fantastic! I really like the "cavern-within-a-cavern" that the stream is flowing out of.
Also: Hobby art is a hobby. Long disappearances are sometimes necessary. Take care of the important stuff first.
The important stuff is, too often, not nearly as fun. :P
It doesn't seem like five months. They've been going by so fast. If we have to wait another five months for the next page, It's ok. We'll be here!
Simultaneously the longest and shortest five months in existence, I think! Thank you for your patience. :)
Glad you are back. :)
This page is so lovely.
And fungus is magic and beautiful.
The underground stream looks so refreshing. I like how you captured both the feeling of being underground and the feeling of open airiness in this landscape.
Thank you Meg. :) That's the kind of atmosphere I was attempting.
So good to see you back in action! Beautiful page.
Thank you for coming back!
Nice to see another Page! Fine art as usual. Doli lives!
Indeed he does!
Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!
A triple cheer! *bows* many thanks.
What a beautiful fantasy landscape! Glad to see you back!
Thank you! I'm so glad to be back.
Yay! yay! yay! yay! yay!
Really "otherworldly," indeed.
I'm getting Simpsons' "The Land of the Jockeys" vibes. I don't imagine this was at all in your head, or anyone else's, and now I'm sorry if you guys can't unsee that, but that's that.
lol I'm not a Simpson watcher so I don't know that reference at all, but whatever does it for you. ;)
A cross between Oz, Fantasia, and Gamma World/Metamorphosis Alpha - lovely stuff.
Echoes of Fraggle Rock, too. :)
No one has made a "What?!? I'm a fun guy!" joke yet, but at least PumpkinheadPie got some of my references, though he overstates my competence. I was one of those kids too young to play Metamorphosis Alpha or even much Basic D&D, Intermediate D&D and AD&D who'd just read the modules and whist, though I whisted fully. I actually play a version of whist with cards when I visit certain family or with my daughter's buddies, but ...
Gamma World? Metamorphosis Alpha??? I bet you're a member of the Judges Guild...
You're BAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!! I'm so happy! I LOVE the magical mushrooms and crystals!
:) :) Thank you!
Nice! Welcome back! 5 months, that is how it seems to go in 2020. No worries though - we, eager audience are happy with any output at any time.... ;-)
I suppose it really is the way things are going, but I can't complain for myself! Hope you are feeling better friend.
Love the large crystals in the bottom third of the page and the stem of the largest (orange-yellowish) fungi. The little pinpricks of light throughout also a nice add.
Just too cool... and welcome back!
Very pretty and imaginative! It's not how I ever imagined the realm of the FairFolk to look, but it's much better than my imagination! I like all the giant mushrooms. Very psychedellic!
I also like the cottage. Reminiscent of a hobbit's hole or underground house.
Oh it’s nice to see you here! And yes, I think this is different even than my own ideas when I first read the books - but the more I played with ideas for the Fair Filk realm, the weirder it got, and this is much more interesting than my first thoughts on the topic!
This is so beautiful! And I love the page! I'm so glad that you could find time to make a new one. So thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to make this for us to enjoy.
(Also yes, I'm the Prydainian Aphmau User that commented on your Daughter of the Sea on fanfiction.net. I didn't realize that you could comment on here without an account until now)
Ah! Well, the revamped comment system does make it easier. Thanks so much for your comments on both pages! Glad to know you are following here too. ☺️
Doli look like he just had to bail four kids out of jail for smoking weed.
It’s probably worse than that in his mind. ?
Welcome back! I was starting to worry!
Sorry!! Between schooling kids and professional work and finishing up some writing I needed to step away for a while, and tbh it was a bit of a relief.
That wasn't Kenny Loggins. It was America
Didn't realize Loggins covered it.
Ah. Well, his is the only version I've ever heard.
Great to see you back!
Thank you! Glad to be back.
So bright! I love the curled top of the house roof.
This was my chance to be as wild and creative as I pleased with landscaping! It was a lot of fun.
I've rememeber that I've sen your Taran and Eilonwy way back in time and your character design stuck with me.
Now, I am Danish and the Prydian chronicles are not that populair in Denmark so first time I stumble across Taran was with Disney.. back in the 90s. And it was a first a decade later or more, I found the books. And they instantly became one of my favorites! As I am reading them again I wanted to find your pages. And so I did and I am ever so happy to see your artwork again <3
Oh it’s so good to hear that! Thank you for not forgetting about me! ☺️
I like getting reference too. The chaos theory of natures structures are so brilliant it's frightful. This one is looking great.
Oh! I just love your huge landscape pictures!
You really captured the Fair folk realm! I love the bridges and how it just seems to go on and on in the background! I am a HUGE fan of this book series and just so disgusted with disney's interpretation, but I'm so so so glad somebody stepped in to do it justice! I found you right as you finished chapter 16 page 6, but all the wait was worth it just to see you back at it again!
I love your work so much, and I am eagerly anticipating further exploration of the fair folk realm!!!
Thanks for your patience! I am truly sorry about the wait and glad the update doesn’t disappoint! ?
No worries! You and your family's priorities come first!!
Welcome back! What a lovely page.
Thanks! ?Good to hear from everyone again
I missed this so much ?
I remember discovering this comic when I was 13! I was so desperate for more prydain content after having finished the series when I stumbled onto this and immediately fell in love! I was always up to date, however, school came around and I got so busy, I forgot about it :(( Quarantine rly had me looking back on all the stuff I used to consume, and I'm so glad I revisited and reread this!
I'm an art student now and I just wanna say that you really have been a huge inspiration for me, my art, and my storytelling! Thank you so much for breathing new life into these characters that I adored so much in my childhood and even until now. I'll make sure to be up to date again with this comic! Please keep it up! :))
Lots of love from the Philippines!
Oh, this is so very sweet and uplifting to hear! Thank you so much for such an encouraging comment, and I am so glad to know this has been an inspiration for you! (and that you didn't forget about it lol)
I'm sorry work has slowed down so much on it but I will keep plugging as I am able. Best of luck to you in your studies too. :)
Hey! I just found this and being a massive fan of The Chronicles of Prydain, I read the entire thing (well what you have so far). Honestly saying I'm impressed doesn't really go far enough, your drawings of the characters are pretty much how I imagined them in the story. And the art as well, it's stunning! Thank you so much for making this. Have a God Blessed day!
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you found me and please visit again soon - always glad to welcome another fan into the community!
All caught up already. Started reading this yesterday. Loved the Chronicles of Prydain growing up. Loving the comic so far. It's pretty great.
Thank you! Glad you found it and hope to hear from you again. ❤️
Life seems to get in the way of a lot of hobbies. I hope your family & kids are doing ok. One of mine is loving the online high school. And the freshman in college has decided to move back home. College with no social activities isn't fun when you are 1000 miles from home. Your artwork is amazing, as always.
Thanks Echo; we are doing fine. Better than we’ve any right to, these days, so I won’t complain.
Incredible artwork! Love the colors and imagination of the underground magic. Feels very like a fae realm!!!!
Thank you B! It was such a delight to explore.
All I can think of is this sung by the inestimable Glenn Yarbrough (from the 1977 "The Hobbit" animated movie by Rankin/Bass, a childhood favorite):
Roads go ever ever on,
Over rock and under tree,
By caves where never sun has shone,
By streams that never find the sea;
Over snow by winter sown,
And through the merry flowers of June,
Over grass and over stone,
And under mountains in the moon.
Roads go ever ever on
Under cloud and under star,
Yet feet that wandering have gone
Turn at last to home afar.
Eyes that fire and sword have seen
And horror in the halls of stone
Look at last on meadows green
And trees and hills they long have known.
Mr. Yarbough's voice was meant for this tune and it's hard to find, as the LP is virtually impossible to locate and it was never released on CD that I can find.
Lovely work as always, Saeriellyn. Sorry I missed the debut, but I've fallen behind on a lot of things this year. I'll be glad to put it behind me, though I have a terrible suspicion at least part of next year will be similar. One lives in hope.
I feel ya, Thrace. Early or late, I’m just glad for any who’ve made it to the party. ❤️ welcome back.
