Aaaaaand we have our first glimmer of empathy. He's slow, but sensitive. :)
Poor Eilonwy.. </3 Taran could definitely relate!
They have more in common than it appears at first.
I always hated how rude Taran was...especially to Eilonwy.
Love the lighting and the anatomy in these prison-scene pages. Out of curiosity do you use a lot of photo reference....maybe mirrors to get everything right?
Well, to give him credit, she's pretty rude to him, and often for no apparent reason. His offenses, at least, are usually unintentional, and he deals with her insults pretty graciously for somebody with no experience with other kids his age.
I do frequently use mirrors, especially with subtle expressions like E's in panel 3...I really should do it every time, because the images always come out better, but I'm lazy. For characters like Gwydion where I need a distinctly male structure I troll images online until I find something in the general range I need.
I know how she feels. I was in a much less severe situation, but when you are that young, it is hard to bear.
Can't wait to see more :)
Me too. It is one of the reasons I identify with her so strongly (or interpret her the way I do - take your pick).
Oh, Eilonwy :( At least the biggest adventure of your life is about to begin.
"But Achren's evil!"
"um... Yup. Sure is."
Taran's gonna learn pretty quickly that evil isn't snuffed out by brave adventurer's like he's always thought, isn't he?
Also, I really wonder at the quality of parents that would send her to Achren OR how nasty the alternatives were. (Unless this is, like, a Harry Potter situation with the Dursley's or something).
Or it's a very long-drawn ransom situation.
I'm REALLY tempted to go read the bloody books, but at the same time I really enjoy taking it in one page at a time from you.
Aaand, unfortunately, that question will not be answered for you in this book, even if/when I finish it. You'll have to get to book 3 to fully grasp what Achren wanted with Eilonwy. Mind you I'd love to get that far, but no idea whether I will be able. In any case, if I whet anyone's appetite for the novels proper, even if that means following this to the end and then picking up the books, this project is a roaring success.
Or you could just wait for the movie.
Awww, poor Eilonwy...
I hope he gets her to somewhere where she can be free...
:) Let's just say this is a pivotal meeting for both of them.
I love how you handle light and how her hair has been drawn-- their expressions are just so real. I love your art!
