Lemme tell you all how much I LOVED drawing this cage. Actually I'm sure it’s quite obvious from its quality. Doli would be unappreciative of my shoddy attention to it, no doubt.

Thank you! (Lol wow it’s gotten to the point where I get a “welcome back” on every page—that’s a little depressing, but I’m doing my best!)

Great page! And exactly the cage I always imagined. Except where is the door?? A gwythaint ain't no small bird. 😄 And Doli in the second panel? As Gordon Ramsey would say, SPOT ON!!!

You know how fairy doors work: they’re invisible when shut. Somebody just has to speak friend and enter.

Good one.
The door in such cages is almost always (because that's easiest) some section one would simply untie from the rest, generally in a relatively flat part of the cage. No hinge needed because the ties, if sufficiently loose, work as hinges.

Great page, Dawn! Somehow I pictured the gwythaint's cage as being square, but that was my very first imagining when I read The Book of Three for the first time. The domed cage actually makes more sense, I think.

I think in our modern sensibility we immediately picture something square because we think of metal bars, but a cage made of saplings on the fly would be much simpler done with curves!

Your cage drawing is not shoddy at all. I'm impressed.

Wonderful! And happy Mother's Day to you :)

Gotta say, my first impression of the 5th panel was, 'why is Fflam waving his hands so excitedly?' ...then my brain turned on and I realized what I was looking at. XD

A cage of most high quality. I think Doli would secretly be flattered :)

Doli's "let's get to work" face is both demonic and wonderful.

You know, I never would've thought of a cage being completely round like that, but it does make sense in this scenario. I wonder how big it actually would be, perspective is always a funny thing in comics

Beautiful as always! I check this page every day to see if there's a new page and I always get that Christmas morning feeling when there is one! Well worth the wait every time :) A perfect example of quality over quantity

As a mega LOTR nerd, I can't help but notice the geometric pattern on Doli's clothing — something the LOTR movies captured very well in the dwarves architecture and culture. Was that… intentional perhaps? I always love to see Tolkien's influence in fantasy all over the place!

also, I gotta say, I love Eilonwy's cloak 👌 so jealous

Beware the frustrations of the highly competent or worse, the perfectionist. :) In Doli's case it works to their advantage, but there are times when you just need to do it yourself, either because you need the practice/experience or for so me other variable like time or cost savings.

The big question now though is: who has to haul that cage around?

Great to see you post again, Saeriellyn. It's always a pleasure to see what gift of color and line you have in store for us with each new page. :)

It looks great! I love the stick still on the cage, like Doli mostly removed those to make a better cage, but since that didn't interfere with the actual cage, it got left. And it reminds the reader that the cage was actually made from random twigs and stuff nearby.

Also Taran's face in that last panel is "Wow", like partially "wow that's well made" and partially "wow, you really showed me up"
