The assistant pig keeper is jealous! We might be drawing that sword regardless of the danger...
I'm imagining one eye twitching and the sounds of a boiling kettle in the final panel.

Indeed, odds are good it won't be in that scabbard forever, but I won't be responsible for the consequences.
LOL yeah an eye twitch would've been a good addition!

As is common with adolescent boys, common sense has taken a back seat to emotion. The brain is on holiday.

I kind of think that "It happens all the time in the Book Of Three" line might have been Lloyd Alexanders way of breaking the fourth wall and spoofing the fantasy genre.
Also the faces appear to be getting shinier.

Ha! You're right. It is a bit of a trope, isn't it.
And yes, the faces are shinier...can I blame the rising sun? lol In reality they should all be filthy. I admit it.

I THINK this is the most tactless thing Taran ever says. I feel like I would remember anything worse. (Well, there's always Craddoc, but that kinda goes beyond a social grace issue.)

Most of the tactless things he says are to Eilonwy, and he has quite a few. "Burdened with a girl" is used at least twice.
The Craddoc thing is deeper though. That's less manners and more identity crises.

Eilonwy may hate to hear it, but her expression in the final panel is so much like Achren's at the bottom of chap. 5 p. 19 that she cannot deny from whom she got it. :-D

LOL that might be due to artist error, but every woman knows this emotion, so...

Instead of thinking about what's written in The Book of Three, he would better have remembered the lesson it taught him when he tried to open it -- objects of magic power can be dangerous to handle.
