Poor Taran. He's very pessimistic, I always forget that about him. Also, I can't believe Eilonwy manages to stay cheerful despite being constantly abused.

Yep, that morose, serious quality is definitely part of his characterization.
In my headcanon, Eilonwy's sarcasm (which is often a defense mechanism), touchiness, and tactlessness all stem from her childhood spent with Achren. If you read carefully, she outgrows a lot of it in the course of the series. Certainly she remains remarkably upbeat despite things, but she's got her own demons...well, you know that, you read my fic, ha ha.

Yeah. The closest he gets to optimism is just sheer brashness. (Or, I guess, craftsmanly pride, but needless to say he's not a natural at that.)

It felt sorta weird to do something so "cartoony" when that hasn't really been my style. Fun, though. I was totally hearkening back to your Cato page with all the little thought pictures when he was coming out of his coma.

I took years and years of figure drawing, back when I was aspiring to animation. Enough of it stuck so I can fake expertise, though I'm still better when I use references.
